Mother's Day Facts and Quotations
Mother's Day is always the second Sunday in May. Reason We Celebrate Mother's Day:It is a day where we take some time to thank the person that brought us into this world and/or cared for us when we were young (and even when we are grownups). History of Mother's Day(U.S): Julia Ward Howe is credited with suggesting the holiday (1872) Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948) played a very significant role in getting the day officially declared as a holiday. She held the first Mother's Day in the U.S. was a church service held on May 10, 1908 at Anna's request to honor her mother. Mother's Day was officially declared as the second Sunday in May by Congress - May 8, 1914 Almost all countries have some sort of Mother's Day Celebrations. Many countries celebrate on the same day as the United States. Mother's Day can be traced to ancient times. Spring festivals included tributes to Goddesses. "Any mother could perform the jobs of several air-traffic controllers with ease." -- Lisa Alther Posted by Picasa "Sweater, n.: garment worn by child when its mother is feeling chilly." -- Ambrose Bierce "When a woman is twenty, a child deforms her; when she is thirty, he preserves her; and when forty, he makes her young again." -- Leon Blum "Motherhood: All love begins and ends there." -- Robert Browning "There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it." -- Chinese Proverb Posted by Picasa "A mother who is really a mother is never free." -- Honore' de Balzac Posted by Picasa "Mother's love is peace. It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved." -- Erich Fromm "The mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mother's side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and to become fully independent." -- Erich Fromm Posted by Picasa "The commonest fallacy among women is that simply having children makes them a mother - which is as absurd as believing that having a piano makes one a musician." -- Sydney J. Harris "Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother." -- Oprah Winfrey "God could not be everywhere, and therefore He made mothers." -- Jewish Proverb "Her children arise up, and call her blessed." -- Proverbs 31:28 Posted by Picasa "I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity." -- Eleanor Roosevelt
