"That one registered a blip on my gaydar!"
If you think you've got excellent gaydar- go and test your skills here.
Most of us have it, some better than others. I'm fairly decent at detecting and also fairly decent at "flying under the gaydar", at least unintentionally. Let's face it, I'm no 100 yard lesbian (a woman who can be identified at a lesbian even at the distance of 100 yards away). I've actually had to convince someone that I am a lesbian, but that is another post in itself.
If your gaydar is a little rusty, Remember the old adage, "We are everywhere."
This is key. Don't let scrawny statistics fool you. Somewhere along the line, thanks to some old misrepresented sex studies, we've got this idea that 10 percent of the population is gay. While some rejoice in this knowledge-- the whole 1 in 10 idea-- the number seems a little low to me. I'd say that is only the number of GLBT folks who admitted to their true identity. It's much more acceptable today, hell it's even becoming nearly vogue with Ellen, Elton, Queer Eye, Will and Grace, "TransAmerica" and "Brokeback Mountain". Now if we could only get the Christian Right to come around....
Look at the numbers for Transsexuals. I think those numbers are way off, the textbooks say it is 1 in 30000, yeah right! Somebody from the community did a study and figured that it is more like 1 in 2500 to 1 in 250 depending on how you define being TS or if you include those who crossdress.
